Sometimes additions to homes don’t add anything, as the Martelli family found.
When they purchased their home, it was a weatherboard home which had a brickalite cladding installed over top. The brickalite cladding made the house look dated with certain parts cracked and falling away from the house. So the first step was to remove the brickalite cladding in the hope the weatherboards underneath were in sound condition and able to be restored. Thankfully only a few boards needed replacing.
At the same time they installed French doors from the lounge and painted the roof. A year later installation of the decks was completed.
Changing from the brickalite cladding to the weatherboards has been such an improvement and even months later they still regularly get comments on the how good the change has been.
It took them weeks to decide on colours for the exterior, before finally choosing Resene Half Oilskin CoolColour for the weatherboards and Resene Ironsand for the roof.
This home was a real team effort with Wheelers Construction completing the weatherboard restoration, Vinny from Canterbury Roof Restoration painting the roof and Ian Reid a local builder building the decks.
